MISSION: Nigeria Implementation Science Alliance (NISA) is a collaborative relation between the communities of Implementing Partners in Nigeria. It is committed to identifying, understanding, measuring and sharing implementation science work done in Nigeria.

HISTORY: NISA was formed to tackle major challenges to implementing evidence-based interventions which include poor dissemination and adoption by the communities where they are needed. These challenges are heightened when research findings from trials conducted in local communities are not appropriately shared with community leaders, local policy makers, and other stakeholders. This practice is common in resource-limited settings where policymakers are often unaware of the effective local evidence-based interventions generated from their community.

NISA 2015: NISA 2015 conference focus was Mother-to-child transmission of HIV. HIV remains a significant public health problem in sub-Saharan Africa, where new infant infections remain common despite the availability of adequate biomedical prevention strategies. Nigeria is one of 21 priority countries that together with India, account for 90% of pregnant women infected with HIV.  Despite the availability of evidence-based interventions and progress made over the last decade, Nigeria had an HIV testing rate of less than 20% among pregnant women and only 27% of pregnant women living with HIV received antiretroviral therapy in 2013. Nigeria alone accounted for 26% of all new child infections in the 21 priority countries.

NISA 2015 was a huge success that brought together 150 participants from 43 different organizations that represented implementing partners, policy makers, and research organizations.
